Marita and I were craving halo-halo today and so we called Relyn. She recommended Grill 21 on 21st between 1st & 2nd. We’ve been looking for a good Filipino restaurant since Krytal left town. We really like Grill 21; it’s much better than Krystal or
Elvi’s. They don’t have anything really exotic, no fusion type dishes (I don’t really care for those anyway). Sinigang na hipon was one of the best we’ve ever had (at least in a restaurant). Longsilog was also very good, as was the halo-halo. Mas understated ang timpla nila; hindi nakakasawa. We also liked their presentation – simple white dishes and no formica table, thank God. Marita says it’s a good place to take friends from the UN.
We got to meet the owners – a nice couple named Henry and Marissa Beck as well their daughter who was our waitress. They also own a spa which we promised to try. Grill 21 is now our first choice for Filipino restaurants in New York. Thanks for the recommendation, Relyn!

I’m glad you liked it. I ate goto there and it’s good. Pwede ding to go. I think Krystal went to a side street, but I don’t like their food. Another new Pinoy rest is Pistahan on 1st Ave between
13t and 14th (west side). Looks ok.
akala ko wala na ang krystal?
Yes, we have tried Grill 21 and I like it better than the over rated Cendrillon which serves fusion Filipino food. Mayu will be having lunch at Grill 21 on Thursday with some friends.
