Gourmets & Cholesterol

One of the problems of gourmet living is cholesterol.  My mother-in-law’s cholesterol is 278.  My aunt has always had high cholesterol.  So even if we never ate gourmet food we’d probably have cholesterol problems (at least Marita’s side of the family would).  So my son got us some flaxseed mix.  The brand is Barlean’s Forti-Flax.  It’s supposed to take care of many things – hypertension, cholesterol, constipation, prostate cancer, etc.  You take 2 to 4 tablespoons of this stuff and mix it with orange or some other juice and gulp it down.  Read all about it here.

This is my second day on Forti-Flax.  I’ve got a doctor’s appointment on Aug 24.  In my last checkup, my cholesterol was “borderline” high :(   So let’s see if this flaxseed helps.  I don’t think Marita and I would like to give up on eating Mexican huaraches or lechon kawali.  If you read recommended low-fat diets, a lot of the foods we like are on the Avoid list.  So I hope this works.  Otherwise, there’s Lipitor . . .
