Another non-food post . . . I just recently discovered Paco de Lucia and John McLaughlin, thanks to Youtube. These are two really exceptional guitarists at the top of their game. Paco is a flamenco player while John is a jazz guy. It just struck me that I really didn’t know anything about these guys until about a week ago. And I’m a guitarist! They performed together in a couple of concerts (hope you saw my previous post of their performance in San Sebastian). I would have loved to see them play together, or even solo. There’s so much to see, hear, do, taste, read . . .
Marita and I still have regrets that we never got to see the pianist Vladimir Horowitz before he died. We got to see Andres Segovia, but he was way past his prime. I never saw Stevie Ray Vaughan who died a couple of years ago in a chopper crash. I’d like to see Eric Clapton. The music in the clip below should be familiar to you. Paco is the balding guy to the right and John is in the middle. The guy with the bushy hair is Larry Coryell. In case you’ve ever wondered what the title is – it’s “Manha da Carnaval” by Luis Bonfa. Which reminds me, I’ve never seen the movie that made this tune famous – “Black Orpheus” which is set in Rio. I’ll borrow the DVD sometime.
