Cuisine Books

If you’re a serious foodie, I guess you should read up on the different cuisines around the world. There’s a book series called “Culinaria” that is really great. Excellent writing and photos. I bought “Culinaria European Specialties” a few weeks ago. Marita and I often read it at night just before sleeping.

Last night, we read about Turkish cuisine. Now we’ve been to a couple or Turkish restaurants in the city and we thought we were reasonably informed about Turkish cuisine. And Marita’s been to Turkey. But we didn’t know 80% of the food mentioned in the book – not even the appetizers in their typical meze. Apparently, there’s a Turkish appetizer made with sheep’s testicles that’s quite popular. Maybe we’ll try it one of these days.  . . maybe.  I doubt if any of the Turkish restaurants in the city would have them . . .
