Brasserie 8 1/2

I’ve been to Brasserie 8 1/2 before but my memories are not about the food. What I do remember is that I had six beers in 2 hours at a party for a client there and did not get a buzz, which really puzzled me.

But last night, Brian and his girlfriend Fanny treated us to dinner and it was a memorable meal.  Marita had sautéed diver scallops with apple braised pork belly and I had roasted pheasant with brussel sprouts.  Jay had pancetta-wrapped magret of duck and butternut squash puree.  Brian had the most interesting dish -  hot foie gras duck consommé that you squirted pureed squash over which then solidified to create instant noodles!  The chef is probably dabbling in molecular gastronomy.  Fanny had the simplest but most luxurious dish – turbot with black truffle shavings.  We also had mac and cheese with truffle butter.  I tried them all.  This is my year for truffle and game.  We finished with some killer desserts and a cheese course.
