Tasting Room

We celebrated Mother’s Day at the Tasting Room, an American bistro style place on Elizabeth Street. There was nothing in the menu that was particularly interesting to me except for the guinea hen and ostrich egg omelettes. I chose the ostrich eggs (I’ve never had them) which they served with chives and sour cream. It went very well with the corn bread, foie gras, bacon that the others ordered. They served Guinea coffee which was also quite good.

Some trivia – one ostrich egg equals 2 dozen regular chicken eggs. It takes an hour to boil one and they’re supposedly difficult to crack. They cost about $15 each. I think I’ve had ostrich meat before but I’m not sure. But I will definitely remember my ostrich omelette.
