Arepas – Again

So we plead guilty once more to going to the same restaurant – for the third time.  Marita had been craving for arepas so we gave in – very easily I should add - and hit Caracas Arepas on 7th Street and 2nd.  At least, we did not have the same things.

I loved our appetizers.  We had tequeños, which are vienna sausage shaped fried white cheese links.  Wonderful.  We also had arroz con caraotas, which is basically the Venezuelan version of rice and beans.  I tried a new beer from Nicaragua called Cerveza Toña which was very light, definitely not in the same league as the Belgian beers we had previously, but went well with our arepas.tequenos

Marita had a Muchachos arepa which had grilled chorizo, white cheese with jalapeños and sautéed peppers.  I ordered their La Pernil arepa, which had
roasted pork shoulder with tomato slices and a spicy mango sauce.  Both very good.

We forgot to order obleas, those plate-sized communion wafers with dulce de leche inside.  It would have been the perfect dessert.  We made up for the oversight by buying dulce de leche ice cream at Gourmet Garage ;)

Oh – you have to budget for dry cleaning when you eat at Caracas Arepas.  It’s a tiny place and the tables are right next to the kitchen.  You will reek of arepas when you leave.
