El Azteca is a tiny restaurant in Park Ridge that serves authentic Mexican food. I dropped by the other day and met the owner and chef, a native of Guanajuato, Mexico who called himself “Arnold”. I was actually quite surprised to see many Latino customers streaming in; I didn’t realize they’ve become established in the Park Ridge area. But it was certainly a good sign that I’d be getting reasonably authentic Mexican. Arnold said he made Mexican chicharon – the type that comes in 3 foot square sheets, as well as pozoles, tamales, huaraches, etc. Maybe we don’t have to go to the Brooklyn Red Hook ball fields any more!
I ordered three tacos – chorizo, al pastor and lengua. They were all good, and reminded me of the taqueria in Los Cabos that we enjoyed so much. El Azteca is open from 7:00 AM to 6:00PM. I promised to return with Marita, perhaps for a breakfast of Huevos GTO, which Arnold says is the Guanajuato version of huevos rancheros.
