Dinners With UNRetirees

We’re really on a roll, eating-wise. We had dinner at Yama, one of the better Japanese restaurants in the city, with Relyn Silva, Abe & Mayu Gonzales. Great fresh sashimi and sushi, not like the stuff you get at many Chinese and Korean restaurants these days, which serve what they call sushi but are really best described as slices of cold dead fish. Then we had dinner at El Pote, one of the most consistently good Spanish restaurants, with Mike Palileo and Daisy Barawidan. We ordered gambas al ajillo, paella and lemon chicken and of course, red sangria.

One of the greatest pleasures in life is having a leisurely meal and just shooting the breeze with old, reliable friends in old, reliable restaurants. El Pote and Yama are not on the Guide Michelin star list, but in the company of good friends like these, the meals are thoroughly enjoyable and just as memorable.
