Uzbek Food Truck, Black Ice Cream & Plastic Cans

We thoroughly enjoyed samsa, the Central Asian version of samosa, when we visited Kazakhstan a few weeks ago.

It was a pleasant surprise to see samsas again, this time at BreadnMeat, an Uzbek food truck in Dubai just outside our hotel. Marita initially thought the food truck people were Kazakhs.

We’ve tried classic Uzbek fare such as plov (rice pilaf) and obinon (a nice fat, salty bread) in some of the Russian joints in Abu Dhabi. But this was our first time to try the Uzbek version of samsa.

And so we ordered plov, obinon and samsa which were all very good.

We also ordered some cherry juice which came in what I thought at first were aluminum cans because of the aluminum flip top. The can’s exterior was cherry red.

It turned out to be clear plastic and the cherry red color was from the cherry juice.

Now that was a surprise. I had never seen a clear plastic “can” until then.

I looked at their Instagram page and found another surprise in the menu – “Activated Charcoal Ice Cream”.

Black ice cream in a black cone.

Apparently, they have another food truck at Jebel Jais, a mountain in the Hajjar mountain range near Ras Al Khaimah.

High temps there are in the 70s vs. 96 here in Abu Dhabi at this time of year).

Sounds like another good excuse to escape the heat of Abu Dhabi and eat again at BreadnMeat.
